How to Use the RV Tow Check App
This is a short video for the latest revision of the RV Tow Check App (April 2021) that will help you get started using it quickly.
The RV Tow Check app is the first "Before You Buy an RV" towing capacity calculator that conforms to manufacturers' weight safety and warranty warnings.
RV Tow Check uniquely complies with the SAE J2807 trailer weight rating (TWR) calculation methodology.
RV Tow Check requires four weight inputs from the tow vehicle. The required entries are gross combination weight rating (GCWR), gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), gross vehicle weight (GVW), and trailer weight ratings (TWR).
With 100% accuracy, RV Tow Check answers the question ‘How much can my vehicle tow without exceeding the weight safety ratings?’ However, the accuracy of one's input is not guaranteed.
RV Tow Check simplifies the process of obtaining the realistic vehicle towing capacity (RVTC) for any vehicle towing a trailer. The app's math calculations are as accurate as the weights entered into it.
RV Tow Check displays realistic vehicle towing capacity for a fifth wheel, gooseneck, and conventional trailers (bumper pull) simultaneously.
RV Tow Check users could select the fifth wheel hitch input box if the hitch was not installed when the truck weighed.
RV Tow Check users may include any additional unscaled weight for cargo, aftermarket equipment, and passenger weight. The app does not assume everyone weighs 150 or 175 pounds as the manufacturers do.
RV Tow Check can assist RV buyers and dealers in ensuring tow vehicles are appropriately matched to any trailer towed.
RV Tow Check provides users with the choice of beginner or expert mode of operation. The app's initial mode is Beginner. Beginner mode has detailed step-by-step instructions. Once the user has learned the correct use, they may switch to "Expert Mode." Expert users will view a streamlined single-page calculator without the instructions.
This industry-leading RV towing capacity calculator app is currently available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android, and Amazon Kindle. Install from the following app stores:
Apple App Store: apps.apple.com/app/rv-tow-check/id1232539021

This video reveals that within less than 25 seconds trailer sway can cause loss of control which could end up causing serious injury or death. Fortunately, no one was hurt in this preventable wreck. In addition to probably not knowing how to notice and react to a swaying trailer, it looks like the trailer may be too large for the tow vehicle. Just because the owner's manual may state the traile...

    Had this happen a week ago, in the middle of fighting to keep it under control I forced myself to let go of the wheel with one hand to apply the trailer brakes, after 5 to 6 seconds of that it was apparent that it wasn't making a difference. Went back to both hands on the wheel. It was a wild ride that felt like forever but was probably 45 seconds to a minute. It happened as I passed a bigrig, while hitting a dip then a rough section of road. We started in the left lane, got dragged to the right, then halfway back to the left before things settled out. Even though they say not to, I honestly did apply light braking after the trailer brakes didn't help. Overall, we got very lucky. My tow vehicle weighs close to 9000lbs, and we were towing a 20' camper that weighs under 4000, I falsely thought it wouldn't happen to us. Ultimately we stopped and moved everything we could to the front of the camper and it towed fine after that.

    I run a small Rv transport business I never had a wreck in 12 years. Let me give a bit of advice. Tow with a one ton dualy if you can. If you can’t. Go slow and if the trailer starts to fish tail. Don’t hit vehicle brakes take foot off peddle and use your brake controller and squeeze the trailer brakes and it will straighten out

    Driver made it worse by trying to stay in front of the sway. You magnify the sway by trying to steer in front of the trailer. Let it sway and either slow down or by speeding up. I prefer the slow down with foot off brake. I pulled double trailers almost a million miles and believe it or not they to can move around especially when some yard jockey puts the heaven trailer in the rear.

      @@paul1e slowing down makes trailer sway worse. Slamming on the brakes while towing a trailer that is not swaying, is not an issue. Car stops and trailer stops inline behind it. Now imagine the trailer is swaying, meaning it is not inline with the towing vehicle. Slamming on the brakes while the trailer is at an angle (not inline) will cause the trailer to jackknife, That is an extreme example. The same holds true even if one slows down gradually using brakes. The solution for him was to speed up to get the trailer out of the sway. It is scary to gain more speed to get rid of sway. I have had trailer sway happen twice to me, and it is terrifying. I managed to stop the sway. 5th wheel hitches hardly ever have sway. The only time they do have sway is when the trailer is grossly imbalanced with how it is packed. I'm talking about big rig transport truck.

      Sorry, but wrong. Give it gas to pull out of it and straighten up the trailer. This goes against natural instinct but accelerating is what you're supposed to do. Then after the trailer straightens out pull over and figure out what went wrong i.e. your weight distribution.

    • @EmpressLizard81
      @EmpressLizard81 2 роки тому

      @@JB-ij9wt That only works in theory, because you're probably pulling too much weight to increase speed in time. What needs to happen is you slow the trailer down, but not the tow vehicle. So don't do anything with your car, but hit the brakes on the trailer. That'll even out the speed difference causing the sway.

      @MissLilRedRooster 6 років тому

      Not about the size of the truck, all about the weight distribution of the trailer on the tongue and hitch. Even bigger trucks can have sway if you don't focus on the physics of the weight in motion

    • @Leopold3131
      @Leopold3131 6 років тому

      victor urbina, not the tow vehicle. Tractor trailers are both shorter and lighter than the trailers the tow. The difference is stability. The caravan is not stable. That’s the problem. Weight needs to be moved forward so there is some tongue weight and it will settle right down. If the wheels are adjustable (probably not) then moving the wheels back will help stabilize the load. Ideally, you want about 10% of the trailer’s weight on the hitch. So a 3,000 lb trailer should put about 300 lbs weight on the hitch. Yeah, that’s heavy. That’s why you have that wheel in the front you can crank down so you don’t throw out your back. Having too much weight up front overloads the vehicle. For instance, move the wheels all the way back, and you now have 1,500 lbs on your vehicle. Add the usual cargo and passengers and you could overload your vehicle, depending on what it is. But have you ever seen someone take a trailer off the hitch and the trailer leans back with the hitch up in the air? They have to stand on it with a guy or two to get it back down to put back on the hitch? That’s very dangerous. Very. Dangerous. What that does is it reduces the weight on the tow vehicles rear wheels, providing less grip to the road. With most of the trailer’s weight behind the trailer axel, you now created a hinge. When that weight starts to move, and at some speed it will, it’s going to start throwing the rear end of the vehicle around (it’s no longer gripping the road like it should). Now rewatch the video and you’ll see exactly that happening.
